Things to consider before buying a Titleist 917 F2 & F3 Fairway Wood
I’m not sure about you, but I really don’t enjoy playing golf using unbalanced, clunky and lacklustre woods. This is where the Titleist 917 F2 & F3 Fairway Wood can really help and improve your level of play. These woods are full-bodied, adjustable, uncluttered and looks extremely stylish. In fact, they have a rather classic look which is an appealing addition.
The technology that has been incorporated into these woods is very advanced. They have an updated Active Recoil Channel 2.0 which provides the user with an elastic impact when hitting the ball. This works to increase the speed of the ball across the fairway and lowers the spin to improve distance and carry.
If you’re thinking about purchasing these woods, then you should consider a few aspects. The woods are more suited to new golfers who have high handicappers. Eventually, these woods could also accompany these customers as they improve the level of play to low handicappers. These products are suitable for both ladies and gentlemen. These woods will guide golfers, regardless of whether they’re new or experienced.
Before committing to purchasing these woods, you need to ask whether your budget can accommodate these woods. Although they’re not the most expensive that are available on the market, they are an investment, especially for those golfers who are very new to the sport. Perhaps it’s worth playing the game for a few months before making the commitment to ensure you get the full worth out of the clubs.
Titleist 917 F2 & F3 Fairway Wood Detailed Review
The Titleist 917 F2 & F3 Fairway Woods promise to be versatile with fantastic shot control. With the addition of the ball being able to cover more distance with less spin, the woods promise to assist all sorts of golfers from a range of standard levels.
When purchased, the clubs come with a bag to ensure they’re kept safe and unmarked.
When compared to previous editions such as the 915 F and the 915 Fd, these woods are larger and are able to cover more distance. It’s fair to say that these really do stand out from all other competitors - with the level of technology that has been invested, as well as their ability to launch a ball across the fairway, they really are a stand-out option. They have a wide range of shaft options to suit players from all levels of ability, as well as the SureFit CG feature and Active Recoil Channel. There are no other woods on the market that can offer this level of technology to assist golfers, which is why the F2 and F3 are a firm favourite amongst Tour players.
Pros
Cons
Features and Benefits
SureFit CG
The addition of this feature allows the CG to be moved around. The CG adjusts from the back to heel position, as well as a forward to toe position. There are adjustable weights included which means that the spin of the ball can be optimised and launch speed and distance can also be improved. This feature can provide a higher level of play and can improve the confidence of the player, meaning more time will be spent playing out on the course. This also means that the woods are suitable for a wider audience.

Active Recoil Channel 2.0
Similarly to the work of a trampoline, these woods include an elastomer which means that when the wood hits the ball, the wood flexes which gives more yield to the ball. The Active Recoil Channel is open-ended within these woods, which has the ability to bring a maximum performance. The aim of this feature is to increase the speed of the ball across the face of the course, with less spin. This feature also benefits the player by carrying the ball across a greater distance.

SureFit Hosel
The SureFit Hosel feature is industry leading, creating a more consistent level of play by optimising the flight of the ball. This feature offers 16 individual loft and lie settings through a precision fitting. This feature has the ability to improve the users’ level of play and confidence whilst out on the course. To use this feature, the woods include a tool which can loosen the screw on the hosel. All you need to do is line up the letter and number that you’d like to use and then tighten the head with the tool until it clicks once. It’s a really simple and easy feature that can make a real difference to your golf handicap.
Variable Thickness Face Insert
This is a fairly straightforward feature which enables the ball to travel at a greater speed around the perimeter of the course. This feature is a benefit for all those off-centre hits to enable a greater distance. Indeed, these woods are the most forgiving available on the market, which is a benefit in itself! These woods include lower centres of gravity which can help to improve launch angles and better stability when hitting mis-hits.

Sound and acoustic frequencies
These clubs are Tour-validated, meaning that users can feel confident whilst using them. Tour players report that the feel and sound of the woods are superb, full-bodied and satisfying. The feel of hitting the ball is soft and stays fairly consistent across the face, giving the user greater control over the hit.

Shot shape customisation
This feature enables users to have more confidence and control over the shot, regardless of whether this is played on turf or tee.

Shaft options
When it comes to a Fairway wood performance, it’s imperative to have the correct shaft. Golfers will notice the inclusion of the Mitsubishi Diamana line - popular with Tour players and a staple metalwood within the range. Three options exist, White, Blue and Red Limited Plus models, all range to suit different players who have varying levels of ability. The White shaft option focuses on both a low launch and spin, and is the heaviest of the three models. The Blue is suited for a mid-launch and spin - ideal for those who have an average swing speed and looking to improve the carry distance of the ball. The Red shaft has a smooth feel and is the lightest of the three options. This is a great option for those with a slow swing speed and for a high launch of the ball.

How does the Titleist 917 F2 & F3 Wood compare?
Titleist TS2 Fairway Wood
The TS2 differs from the 917 F2 and F3 as it brings more speed to the game, rather than focussing on the launch and distance of the ball. The TS2 allows players to swing aggressively with great forgiveness across the course. This Fairway is incredibly accurate whilst accompanied with explosive speed. In terms of the price, this club is more expensive, however, it also has the inclusion of an adjustable swing weight and as with the F2 and F3, a deep and low CG.

Again, the TS3 differs from the product as its aim is focussed more towards the speed of the ball. With an adjustable sweet spot and dynamic forgiveness, this Fairway also offers a SureFit CG and adjustable swing weight. As with the TS2, this club is more expensive than the F2 and F3, however, has tremendous features and is now available to purchase. With a focus on a mid launch and low spin, it is considered to be similar to the products reviewed, however, has the addition of a feature of the speed-tuned performance.

Titleist 818 Hybrid
The 818 Hybrids focus on the importance of scoring as well as the distance the ball travels across the course. With a high launch and distance firmly in mind, the Hybrids are ideal for those players who have an interest in the look of a Fairway and want a satisfactory delivery of the ball. With tremendous forgiveness, the capability of a high launch of the ball, as well as easy distance, the Hybrid is a more affordable option when compared to the F2 and F3. With great adjustability, tremendous distance and incredible precision, these are a great alternative to your play.
